What Started It All?

From a young age, art was my refuge—a language that spoke when words could not. As a quiet and introspective child, I turned to drawing as my voice, a way to translate thoughts and emotions into something tangible. My natural gift for art was evident to those around me, yet as the responsibilities of growing up approached—school, work, and life’s endless demands—I found myself, like most, setting aside the very thing that once brought me solace.

On October 9th 2024, at the of 20 years old: just 18 days shy of my 21st birthday, during a sleepless night, a moment of profound clarity and awakening surged through me, reigniting a flame I hadn’t realized was still flickering deep within. At 1:00 AM, with nothing but a ballpoint pen and a scrap of paper, I sketched a lotus flower. That seemingly simple moment became transformative. As I looked at the piece of paper and was reminded of the immense talent I carried, memories of my childhood passion surged back, filling me with a profound sense of purpose. The lotus, with its timeless symbolism of rebirth, resilience, and triumph over adversity, resonated deeply. It became not just a sketch but a metaphor for my creative journey—a passion that had been buried but not forgotten, waiting to bloom again.

In that quiet, unassuming moment, something extraordinary happened—like a spark igniting in the depths of my soul, a dormant part of me came alive. It was as if God whispered, reminding me of the gift He had given me and the purpose He had prepared for me all along. Where Does Alejandra Olascoaga’s Inspiration For Her Pieces Come From?

I am deeply rooted in my indigenous heritage, a heritage that flows through my veins and informs the lens through which I see the world. The colors, the stories, the symbols of my ancestry—they speak to me, guiding the direction of my work. My art, therefore, is an exploration of the vibrant and sacred world from which I come. I have spent much of my life immersed in diverse cultural experiences and I find myself continually reconnecting with my roots. Through each brushstroke, I weave together the sacred threads of my indigenous heritage, my personal story, and my artistic journey.

While my heritage as an indigenous Mexican woman informs the way I see the world, it is but one of many layers that define my work. Yes, my roots run deep in the soil of Mexico, but it is through the lens of faith, purpose, and vision that I view the world. I am an artist whose art is shaped not only by my cultural landscape but by a profound relationship with God—a relationship that infuses every brushstroke with meaning, every color with grace, and every piece with a deeper connection to the world around me.
